Deze keer gingen we stroomopwaarts; dit werd bepaald door het getij en dus de stroming in de Nieuwe Maas. We gingen vlak voor de Van Brienenoordbrug te water en staken over naar de zuidoever.
Vanaf hier peddelden we met een sterke stroming tot we de samenvloeiing van de Nieuwe Maas, de Lek en de Noord bereikten. Opnieuw moesten we oversteken om de Lek te volgen; hier was de stroming sterk en moesten we met de boeg van de kajaks ver stroomafwaarts varen om niet honderden meters verder de Noord op te komen. Eenmaal op de Lek peddelden we naar een plek aan de noordoever voor de lunch en een opboeiend gesprek. Van daaruit keerden we terug via de Bakkerskil, Sliksloot en de IJssel, ook met wat stroming omdat het getij tijdens onze lunch, zoals gepland, was gekeerd.
Het was geen erg inspannende tocht, maar wel leuk om een dag buiten in de frisse lucht en de zon door te brengen met kajakvrienden. Wat wil je nog meer!

This time we went upstream; this was decided by the tides and therefore the current in the Nieuwe Maas. We entered the water just before the Van Brienenoord bridge and crossed over to the south bank.
From here we paddled with a strong current till we reached the confluence of the Nieuwe Maas, the Lek and the Noord. Again we had to cross over to follow the Lek; here the current was strong and we had to traverse with the bows of the kayaks pointing well downstream to not end up hundreds of metres further up the Noord. Once on the Lek we paddled to a spot on the north bank for lunch and edifying discussion. From there we returned via the Bakkerskil, Sliksloot and the IJssel, also with some current as the tides had changed during our lunch, as planned.
It was not a very strenuous trip but enjoyable, spending a day outside in the fresh air and sunshine, with kayak friends. What more could you want!
